The Benefits of CryptoMemory®

Atmel's CryptoMemory is a new Secure Memory product family with densities from 1 Kbit to 256 Kbits.  This low-cost, high-security solution fills the security gap between plain serial EEPROM memories and microprocessors.  They are the only Secure Memory family in the industry with mutual authentication between the memory and host device, and data encryption for both synchronous and asynchronous protocols.

The CryptoMemory provides the following security features:

*

Symmetric Dynamic Mutual Authentication using a 64-bit key to authenticate reader/writer and CryptoMemory Key

*

Encrypted Passwords with Attempts Counters, Encrypted with a Different Key for Each Usage

*

Stream Encryption, Ensuring Data Privacy

*

Read and Write encrypted Checksum, Guaranteeing Data Integrity and Authenticity of the Source

*

Anti-tearing, avoiding data corruption or recovering data in case of power loss or premature removal from reader/writer

*

More secure and flexible than solutions incorporating small microprocessors (<16Kbytes ROM)

The CryptoMemory device includes a random generator and a proprietary algorithm similar to DES for encrypting data, passwords, and providing MAC for read and write operations, thus providing data integrity and certification of data origin.  Each device is differentiated from all others after personalization through a unique identification number and set of secret keys.  The device secret keys are issued from the application using an encryption algorithm such as DES, 3DES, AES, etc., which is chosen by the issuer.

The Datakey Electronics CryptoMemory Key family gives the CryptoMemory Key integrator a complete solution of Keys, Receptacles, and support peripherals.  These rugged and reliable Keys function in environments where memory cards would not survive.
